Heavy traffic disruption expected on E34 in Beveren, due to night-time dismantling work on the high-voltage line
The system operator, Elia, is currently reinforcing the high-voltage line (380kV) between Liefkenshoek and the high-voltage substation Mercator in Kruibeke as part of the Brabo III project. For these works, the E34 at the slip road complex 9 in Beveren will be completely closed between 11 p.m. and 4 a.m. for two nights in October.
Dismantling of high-voltage line
Since August, Elia has been dismantling the existing high-voltage line (150kV) between Liefkenshoek and the Mercator high-voltage substation in Kruibeke in order to rebuild it in the same location as a new reinforced high-voltage line (380kV). Eight old conductors will be detached between two existing pylons, laid on the ground, and then pulled over the motorway (E34). To minimise disruption and avoid having to close the motorway for too long, Elia is removing four conductors on one night and four on the other night.
Heavy traffic disruption expected
Because the high-voltage wires cross the E34, the motorway will be temporarily closed in both directions between the Waaslandhaven-Oost complex and the Beveren interchange (the R2 junction) during the night of Tuesday 10 to Wednesday 11 October and the night of Wednesday 11 to Thursday 12 October, between 11 p.m. and 4 a.m. In consultation with the police and the competent authorities, the decision for complete closure was made to ensure optimal safety throughout the execution of the works. That means the intermediate slip road at Melsele will be inaccessible. There will be a diversion between the Waaslandhaven-Oost complex on the E34 and the Waaslandhaven-Zuid complex on the R2, the northern half of the Antwerp ring road in the port. The necessary signs and diversions will be put in place to ensure traffic runs smoothly and safely.
