energieGRIP: Getting ready for the energy transition together in Flanders
The energy transition is rapidly changing our energy consumption and how we use this energy. We are already seeing a huge increase in industrial electricity consumption, and we only expect further shifts in this direction in the future. If we want to get ourselves in the best possible place to deal with this, an upgraded and expanded energy grid is needed, and we must construct and upgrade both electricity and (green) gas grids (for molecules) in the years ahead.

That's why we, the system operators Elia, Fluvius and Fluxys, have come together to set up energieGRIP in Flanders. With energieGRIP we want to get a real grip on, or insight into, businesses' plans in terms of the energy transition. This will enable us as system operators to be better at anticipating what lies ahead and to promptly upgrade our grids.

What are energy transition plans?
An energy transition plan sets out the guidelines for the transition to sustainable energy use within your company. This usually includes an analysis of current energy consumption, goals for future energy consumption, and an action plan to implement these plans.
Why do you need my energy transition plans?
By collating these plans, we as system operators can gain a better understanding of where and when an expansion of the energy grid is needed. In this way we can ensure economic growth and also be more efficient in our investments, resulting in manageable grid costs for society.
The main aim is to target our investments. We want to better understand the future energy mix for customers and address major blind spots. As system operators, we use predictive models to plan future grid investments. These models are based on specific assumptions and, like all models, don't fully reflect the reality on the ground. We want to include our customers' future energy mix in the equation so that we can better test our assumptions and incorporate local data. This will ensure the accuracy of our data, enabling efficiency in our energy grid planning.
What will happen to any energy transition plans I share?
The three system operators will of course treat the energy transition plans you share with us as confidential, and so we won't share this data with other, external parties.
You're under no obligation to share your energy transition plan or the associated data with us. Not sharing such a plan with us will have no impact on your current or future connection applications or adjustments. After submitting your energy transition plan, you can also adjust or update it with more detailed information.
energieGRIP's sole purpose is to gain an insight into companies' future energy needs and consumption in Flanders.
