Connection contract

Grid users have a connection contract with Elia. What are the terms of the contract?

Rights and obligations

Connection contracts govern the contractual rights and obligations of both Elia and the grid user in relation to, among other matters:

  • rights of use;
  • ownership;
  • technical requirements;
  • operation of connection facilities.

Technical data

The contract also includes the required technical data regarding the grid user's facilities to be connected to the grid (e.g. voltage level, connection point, description of the facility, security).

When work needs to be done on a connection, good coordination between the customer and Elia staff is essential. The switching operator must follow this e-learning and pass a short test to master the rules of coordination.

Location

Furthermore, the connection contract indicates the physical location (connection point) where the facility is connected to the Elia grid and the access point where energy is injected into or taken from the grid.

The connection contract was approved by CREG in its decision of 16 July 2009 (Decision No. (B) 090716-CDC-883) and is based on the regulations in force.

In the Walloon Region, high-voltage customers directly connected to the local transmission system can make use of the provisions of Article 25(C)(1)(3) of the Walloon Decree of 12 April 2001 when Elia causes a delay in the connection. Customers can contact their Key Account Manager for more detailed information.
