Working Group Energy Solutions
The working group Energy Solutions works on the evolution of the market model with the aim of accelerating the energy transition and promoting the development of innovative energy management solutions. The working group also addresses technical issues related to the balancing market and its evolution to prepare it for future challenges.
What the Energy Solutions working group is about
The Energy Solutions working group focuses on the development and adaptation of balancing mechanisms and ancillary services, and on the implementation of a ‘consumer-centric’ vision aimed at, among other things, developing the additional flexibility needed to accelerate the energy transition.
- The evolution of balancing mechanisms and support services is covered in the following topics:
- The adjustments to the existing balancing services (FCR, mFRR et aFRR);
- A future vision on purchasing and diversifying balancing resources;
- Improvements to our online publications and messages related to balancing;
- The potential cross-border synergies on balancing;
- The connection to European balancing platforms (MARI / PICASSO).
In this working group, Elia aims to discuss the two main features that have been identified to offer major advantages for consumer-oriented market design:
- The implementation of a platform to support exchange of energy blocks (EoEB)
- The evolution towards a real-time imbalance price (RTP) that reveals the true value of flexibility
Facilitating the development of additional flexibility involves developing a clear incentive, the real-time price.
Collaboration with market parties
All energy actors: grid users, suppliers, balancing responsible parties, aggregators, energy service providers, federations, but also the government and the Belgian regulator are invited to participate in this Working Group Energy Solutions.
Elia is convinced that this cooperation will lead to a solid solution based on a common position that takes into account the needs and constraints of energy market stakeholders.
Elia will take into account the advice of the Working Group when developing its final proposals and will then seek the appropriate approvals.
Organisation
The Energy Solutions Working Group meets 6-7 times a year and reports directly to the plenary meeting of the Users' Group.
