Work on underground electricity cable on the Erembodegemstraat

Elia has been modernising the high-voltage substation in Aalst for some time now. Last summer, Elia replaced five outdated underground cables (15 kV) with one underground cable (70 kV) around the high-voltage substation.

In the months ahead, Elia will work on the junction trenches, where it will connect up the new cable to other cable sections.

Excavation work for this purpose was carried out on the Désiré de Wolfstraat in March 2025. The site will move to the Erembodegemstraat as of 31 March 2025. The following temporary change to the traffic situation will apply while the work is being carried out:

  • Work will take place between Erembodegemstraat 5 and the junction with the Désiré de Wolfstraat;
  • The side of the road heading to Erembodegem will be closed. Temporary traffic lights will enable through traffic to continue on its way via the other side of the road;
  • A speed limit of 30 km will apply in the worksite zone;
  • Parking will not be permitted in the worksite zone as of 28 March 2025;
  • Pedestrians and cyclists will be able to pass the site via the pedestrian and cycle path.

Work is scheduled for completion on 25 April 2025.
