Elia opens doors of Aalst high-voltage substation for Open Site Day

During the Open Site Day on Sunday 7 May 2023, more than 300 visitors took a look at the high-voltage substation in Aalst. Prime Minister, Alexander De Croo was also present.

A unique look behind the scenes

As Elia is currently renovating the high-voltage substation in Aalst, the installations could exceptionally be shown to the general public. Visitors had the opportunity to take a closer look at the transformers and the doors of the relay room were also wide open. The enthusiastic team was on hand to explain the operation of the high-voltage substation in detail and answer all questions.

Renovation of high-voltage substation

Elia is currently renovating the high-voltage substation in Aalst. The existing substation, which was constructed in 1978, is outdated and will be demolished and replaced. This will ensure the continued supply of energy to businesses and households in the Denderstreek region. The new substation will be operational by the start of 2027.
