Brabo III entering a new phase
After completing the erection of many of the new pylons for the Brabo III project, a new phase started at the construction site: installation of the conductors for this new, 380-kilovolt overhead line.
The Brabo III project covers the area from Liefkenshoek to the Mercator high-voltage substation in Kruibeke, so the conductors will be installed in various, geographically-divided groups of pylons (also known as ‘pulling sections’). The first pulling section runs across the golf courses in the Golf van Beveren area and the Kallosluis; a total distance of approximately 2 km.
Exactly how will we set to work?
Certain preparations are necessary before the conductors are secured between the pylons. The so-called pulling ropes will be secured to the pylons in the first phase. A drone was used to do this at the Kallosluis - where there was a width of 50 metres. Once the pulling ropes are in place, the conductors themselves can be fitted.
Naturally, sufficient safeguards are essential during these types of works. Because conductors were to be pulled across the 50-metre wide Kallosluis and beyond, both protective frames and scaffolding were erected there.
Watch how it happened below
All the conductors for this pulling section have now been secured in place. The next step is to install various accessories, such as aviation warning-spheres and bird beacons. Work can then start on the next pulling section. The plan is for the entire Brabo III high-voltage line to be operational in spring 2026.
Thanks to all the teams for their dedication and commitment!
