Start of work on the Wetteren high-voltage substation
We have been working on upgrading the Wetteren high-voltage substation in Kapellendries since September.
Upgrade of the Wetteren high-voltage substation
To ensure future security of supply, the following work is being carried out:
- We are demolishing the existing buildings and replacing them with new, modern buildings.
- We are erecting a new 36-kV gas-insulated switchgear (GIS) installation. A GIS installation is housed in a separate building.
- Fluvius is replacing the medium-voltage substation. All of the switchgear is installed here. This will enable Fluvius to continue distributing electricity to the residents of Wetteren and the surrounding area.
Phased work
The work started in September 2024 and will last three years. We are starting by demolishing the home next to the high-voltage substation (number 30, Kapellendries), before constructing the new building. We will then install and test the new installations, which will be commissioned in phases. This phased approach means that local residents will have electricity at all times during the work.
