Night works above the R4 completed without any problems

The night works above the R4 ring road around Ghent have been completed without any problems.

In preparation for construction of the new Baekeland high-voltage substation, Elia is carrying out pylon and line works (levelling and raising the site, moving two 380-kV lines and undergrounding a 150-kV line locally, etc.) near the Energiestraat on the R4 ring road around Ghent. As part of these works, two remaining high-voltage pylons and lines that ran across the R4 have been demolished.

To keep traffic disruption to a minimum and work as safely as possible, we and all the relevant services (the police, emergency services, the city of Ghent, the Agency for Roads and Traffic and the North Sea Port, etc.) decided to close the R4 for two nights - the night of Saturday 9 to Sunday 10 November and the night of Saturday 16 to Sunday 17 November - from 10 p.m. on Saturday until 2 p.m. the next day. Traffic in both directions was diverted via Lange Mate, Hulsdonk and the Sprendonkstraat. Although businesses in the area were still accessible, We proactively notified them of the works to be carried out.

Thanks to the teams' quick work, the R4 was reopened earlier than planned on both Sundays.
