Project schedule updated due to coronavirus

To limit the impact of the coronavirus crisis on the project, Elia has drawn up a new project schedule for the installation of underground electricity cables between Bruges and Sijsele.

Critical projects tackled in recent months

A range of measures have been announced with a view to limiting the spread of the coronavirus (COVID-19). In recent months, Elia first focused on work that is critical for accessibility and traffic flow. This was done by digging out short trenches to insert conduits locally and then re-closing the trench. In addition, directional drilling operations were carried out underneath busy intersections. Using this method, it is possible to install cables without disrupting traffic or opening up the road surface.

Updated project schedule

In the meantime, Elia has changed its work methods so that it is possible to carry out each type of work while at the same time complying with the coronavirus measures. An updated project schedule was produced. The various worksites will remain the same. This differs from the project schedule provided earlier.

Minimising disruption

The contractor and Elia will make every effort to minimise disruption. All homes and businesses will remain accessible. They will be personally informed in the event of any exceptions to this. There will be no power outages during the works.
