Elia replacing outdated high-voltage cables with one new cable
On 10 June 2024, Elia will start works to replace a number of outdated underground cables. These works will cause some traffic disruption around the Erembodegemstraat in the summer months.
Elia has been modernising the outdated high-voltage substation on the Erembodegemstraat in Aalst for some time now. In addition to the high-voltage substation, a number of underground cables are outdated too (the oldest dates back to 1973) and need to be replaced: five 15kV cables between the Erembodegemstraat, De Vilanderstraat and Burchtstraat. These cables will be replaced with one 70kV underground cable.
Traffic disruption
For example, from 10 June to 10 July 2024, the Erembodegemstraat will be closed between the Eugeen Bosteelsstraat and the Desiré de Wolfstraat. Safe passage will be provided for cyclists and pedestrians. Motorised traffic heading towards Aalst will be detoured via the Desiré de Wolfstraat, in which the direction of traffic will change temporarily. Motorised traffic heading towards Erembodegem will be detoured via the Brusselse Steenweg (N9) - Brusselbaan (N9) - Hogeweg - Erembodegem-Dorp - Rooms-Hofstraat.
Part of the Erembodegemstraat will be closed for traffic from 10 July to 18 August 2024. It will still be possible for traffic to pass in turns, but local delays will be possible.
As requested by the city of Aalst, Elia will carry out its works in the summer months as much as possible, to avoid the busy school traffic.
