Seraing: Planting along Chemin des papillons
On 18 February, over 40 pupils from Bouleaux Primary School in Seraing took part in a planting activity along Chemin des Papillons pathway.
The event was organised with the help of biodiversity experts from Ecofirst and O'jardin, who shared their know-how and helped the children with their planting.
Recreating an ecosystem
The children had an opportunity “roll up their sleeves” and find out more about biodiversity by planting some of the 2,800 native plants that will line this pathway. These plants, which were specifically chosen for their ability to attract insects and pollinators, will also cover a flower meadow several hundred meters long.
What are the next steps?
The next steps of the project include further planting and the recreation of a pathway for pedestrians and cyclists. The aim is to reopen the pathway to walkers as quickly as possible, while maximising the benefits for local biodiversity.
Respect for planted areas
In order to let nature do its work, it is important not to trample the areas where planting has taken place. Wooden posts have been installed all along the pathway to demarcate and protect these areas. We ask all future visitors to respect them. Thank you!
