Laying of underground electrical cablesfinalised
In 2021, Elia started laying underground cables (150 kV) between the high-voltage substations of Kallo and Fort Sint-Filips and Beveren-Waas. This work has now been completed. Elia is currently conducting the necessary safety tests so that these cables can be taken into service.
Laying of underground cables
Elia has laid two underground cables in Zwijndrecht and Beveren. A single cable (1x150kV) was laid between the high-voltage substations of Kallo and Fort Sint-Filips over a distance of 600 metres. In addition, a double cable (2x150kV) was laid between the high-voltage substations Kallo and Beveren-Waas, covering a distance of 6 kilometres.
Guaranteeing continued electricity supply
The construction of these underground cables is part of the Brabo III project and is necessary to facilitate the renewal of the Liefkenshoek - Mercator high-voltage line and its upgrade from 150 kV to 380 kV. The new cables will guarantee 150-kV capacity in the region after the reinforcement of the high-voltage line.

Safety tests and working in high-voltage substations
The new electrical cables (150 kV) have been laid, but have not yet been taken into service. Elia is currently conducting the necessary safety tests. In addition, works are currently ongoing to upgrade these high-voltage substations, after which the new electrical cables can be taken into service. The next step is the reinforcement and renewal of the high-voltage line by Elia.
