380-kV loop around the port of Antwerp enters service
On 27 November 2020, Elia commissioned the upgraded 380-kV high-voltage line along the A12 between Zandvliet and Lillo. An existing overhead line was upgraded from 150 kV to 380 kV, with 46 pylons replaced one-for-one and new electric wires laid over 16 kilometres. -

Commissioning of Scheldt crossing and upgraded Lillo high-voltage substation
As part of the Brabo II project, a branch line has been constructed on the existing 380-kV overhead line between Doel and the Mercator high-voltage substation in Kruibeke. This branch connects the Lillo high-voltage substation with the existing Doel-Mercator overhead line. -

Laageind (N111) in Stabroek closed on 5 July 2020
On Sunday, 5 July 2020, Elia, the Belgian high-voltage system operator, will be continuing its work in the vicinity of the Stabroek interchange (junction 13) on the A12 and Laageind (N111). Poor weather conditions prevented this work, involving the use of a helicopter, from being completed as originally planned on 28 June. -

On Sunday, 28 June 2020 Elia is carrying out work in the vicinity of the Stabroek interchange (No 13) on the A12 and Laageind (N111). As part of the Brabo Project, new electric wires will be installed on high-voltage pylons. A helicopter will be used during the operation. -

Restoration of mudflats and salt marshes
As part of the Brabo II project, Elia has erected 192-m high-voltage pylons on both banks of the Scheldt in the port of Antwerp to enable the cables to span the river without disrupting maritime traffic. The area surrounding the pylons has now been completely restored, as the mudflats and salt marshes along the Scheldt are a biotope of European importance. -

From mid-May 2020, Elia will resume work on upgrading the high-voltage line around Stabroek and Zandvliet. This will require a number of roads in the area to be either completely or partially closed. An overview by area is provided below. -

Brabo II: Update on works
Over the past few weeks, the high-voltage pylons on both banks of the River Scheldt have been connected. The final electric wires are now in place and safety markers have been installed. The operation was filmed, resulting in some spectacular footage. -

Open Site Day 2019
Open Site Day on 19 May drew nearly 800 visitors to the Brabo project. As well as the Brabo site itself, visitors also got to look around the Lillo high-voltage substation. -

A12 and Noorderlaan temporarily closed in late April
As part of the Brabo II project, Elia will be disconnecting and removing high-voltage lines at various times over the coming weeks. To carry out these works safely, Elia will need to close the A12 motorway and some of the surrounding streets to traffic at various times.
