Dismantling of high-voltage pylons between Malderen and Mechelen

Elia started dismantling high-voltage pylons between Malderen and Mechelen in the spring of 2022. The electricity wires were already removed in 2021. The high-voltage line has reached the end of its service life. The completion of the works is planned towards the end of 2022.

Work in phases

In 2021, Elia started dismantling a high-voltage line (70 kV) between Malderen and Mechelen. The electrical wires between the pylons were removed. In the spring of 2022, Elia has started dismantling the high-voltage pylons. These works will not occur successively from Malderen to Mechelen, or vice versa. The project schedule has been drawn up on the basis of various factors, such as access to the foundations during wet periods, the harvest season of certain types of crops on plots, etc. This is always done in consultation with the plot owners or users, who are personally informed before the work begins. The completion of the works is planned towards the end of 2022.

Dismantling of high-voltage pylons

The dismantling of high-voltage pylons is done using large cranes. The pylons will be dismantled in different parts. The foundations are then removed to a certain depth. The soil is repaired so that its condition corresponds with that of the surrounding terrain.
