Update on the work on the underground cable connection along Maldersesteenweg
Work on laying an underground cable connection along Maldersesteenweg is progressing according to schedule. Before the construction sector’s summer break begins on 19 July, a permanent asphalt coating will be applied to the road surface by the first two sections of cable and temporary repairs will be carried out on the road between trenches J2A and J3A so that traffic can travel along the entire length of Maldersesteenweg during the break. Work on Maldersesteenweg, Koeisteert and Stuikberg will resume on 5 August with a view to reopening the whole road to all traffic in mid-October.
Asphalting work by the first two sections of cable
In the week of 8 to 12 July, the contractor will apply a permanent asphalt coating to the road surface of Maldersesteenweg by the first two sections of cable (Malderen substation – J1A and J1A – J2A). Note that work will still be under way in two areas measuring around 20 m each, by trenches J1A and J2A. Speed limits have been set in these areas in the interests of road safety.
Temporary repair of road surface at cable section J2A – J3A
The road surface between trenches J2A and J3A will be repaired temporarily in the week of 15 July to allow traffic to travel along the entire length of Maldersesteenweg during the construction sector’s summer break (19 July to 5 August).
Trench J3A at Doofmeer
Trench J3A will remain open during the construction sector’s summer break, so it will not be possible to access Doofmeer from that side between 19 July and 5 August. This trench cannot be closed until the cables for stage 4 have been pulled.
Schedule following the construction sector’s summer break
Work will resume on 5 August and will focus on the remaining part (stage 4) of the cable route along Maldersesteenweg, Koeisteert and Stuikberg (up to Zavelstraat). Barring any unforeseen circumstances (such as unfavourable weather), the entire road should be reopened to all traffic in mid-October.
