Elia starts laying underground power cables (15 kV) in                  IJzerenweglei

Scheldekabel NV is starting work on laying underground power cables (15 kV) in IJzerenweglei for Elia, the operator of Belgium's high-voltage grid. Elia plans to lay these cables between the Mortsel high-voltage substation in Drabstraat and the Agfa-Gevaert site in Septestraat, with a view to ensuring that Elia can continue guaranteeing a reliable electricity supply for Agfa-Gevaert in the future.

Laying of underground power cables begins in IJzerenweglei

On Monday, 5 July, Scheldekabel NV will begin laying underground power cables at the Klein-Zwitserland park in IJzerenweglei. Day by day, the worksite will gradually move towards the intersection with Heirbaan. A trench in the road surface will be dug and conduits laid there. The trench will then be refilled and the road surface restored. The cables will be pulled through these conduits at a later date. Work will run up to and including 9 July 2021.

Temporary parking ban and change in traffic rules during the work

Parking in IJzerenweglei will not be permitted during the work. Free parking spaces will be provided for local residents, workers and customers from Sunday, 4 July up to and including Friday, 9 July at Krijgsbaan 51-57, opposite Fortstraat, next to the building complex.
IJzerenweglei will be closed to cyclists during the work:

  • A diversion via Dieseghemlei, Amedeus Stockmanslei, Krijgsbaan and Heirbaan will be in place.
  • The cycle path from the Sprookjes car park will be closed during the work for welding to be carried out.

Pedestrians coming from Osylei via Klein-Zwitserland or going in the other direction will not be affected by the work.
