Laageind (N111) in Stabroek closed on 5 July 2020

On Sunday, 5 July 2020, Elia, the Belgian high-voltage system operator, will be continuing its work in the vicinity of the Stabroek interchange (junction 13) on the A12 and Laageind (N111). Poor weather conditions prevented this work, involving the use of a helicopter, from being completed as originally planned on 28 June. To ensure that everything proceeds safely, Laageind will be closed in both directions from the A12 to the junction with Abtsdreef. Through traffic will be diverted. Homes and businesses along Laageind will remain accessible via Torense Weg.

A helicopter used again to carry out work on high-voltage pylons

On 28 June, Elia used a helicopter to carry out work at Laageind (N111) as part of the modernisation and upgrading of the existing 150-kV high-voltage line between Zandvliet and Lillo. However, strong winds prevented this work from being completed as planned, and so Elia is planning to continue its work at the Stabroek interchange (junction 13) on the A12 on Sunday, 5 July 2020. Using a helicopter, nylon draw ropes  will be pulled across the pylons. Elia will then use these draw ropes to pull new electric wires through the previously installed high-voltage pylons.

Laageind (N111) closed in both directions

To ensure that the work can be carried out safely, Laageind (N111) will be closed in both directions between the A12 and the intersection with Abtsdreef on 5 July 2020. Homes and businesses along Laageind (N111) and in Picoloplein will remain accessible. Traffic coming from the A12 will be diverted via Krommeweg and Monnikenhofstraat, while local traffic heading towards Laageind between Torense Weg and Abtsdreef will temporarily be diverted via Torense Weg . Local traffic heading towards Dorpsstraat will use the existing diversion along Oud Broek, reaching Dorpsstraat via Abtsdreef. This diversion is part of the redevelopment of Dorpsstraat/Laageind by the Flemish Agency for Roads and Traffic (AWV).
