Project to start on 26 April – use our interactive map to stay informed!
According to the provisional schedule, the project to build the first 150-kV line between the Auvelais substation and the Gembloux substation will start on 26 April 2021.
Laying an underground line requires the use of different working methods:
- The cables are laid in open trenches in 15 sections, each about 800 metres long. This means that the work is not carried out along the entire route at the same time. Instead, it is done in sections, with each section taking about six weeks. By working in this way Elia aims to limit the disruption and impact of the work.
- Junctions are created to connect sections and cable ducts are installed where necessary.
- Directional drilling is used to facilitate digging underneath major infrastructure or through areas whose environmental characteristics do not permit the digging of open trenches.
