Work resumes
Elia has resumed work in Bessemstraat, Beekstraat, Overloopstraat, Rennekouter and Kleine Heide, while closely following the announced measures to limit the spread of the coronavirus (COVID-19).
- Elia continues work in stages
Since energy is a critical sector, Elia has been continuing its work on the Schelle-Malderen-Mechelen project, in stages, since 30 March 2020. For the time being and in the immediate future, we are only resuming work that can be performed while complying with the applicable distancing rules and hygiene measures. Safeguarding the health and safety of all staff and of the environment is our top priority whenever we carry out work.
- Underground directional drilling in Beekstraat
As originally planned, Elia will perform two underground directional drilling operations in Beekstraat. These operations will take place at the junction of Beekstraat and the side street leading towards Van Bruggenhout Gebroeders and underneath the junction with Kardinaal Cardijnlaan. In the locations where the work is being performed, one lane will be open for traffic in both directions to use alternately.
- Laying conduits in Bessemstraat, Rennekouter and Kleine Heide
Conduits are being laid at places in Bessemstraat, Rennekouter and Kleine Heide where Elia has already dug an open trench. Elia will then backfill the open trenches with soil. Electricity cables will be pulled through the conduits at a later date. This cannot be done until the distancing rules implemented to limit the spread of the coronavirus are no longer in force. The current traffic rules continue to apply.
