New sections in progress

Construction of a number of new power-line sections began on Monday 30 September 2024.

This work is being carried out as part of the Ruien–Chièvres project, which involves laying a new underground line between the Ruien and Chièvres high-voltage substations and will help to boost security of supply in your region.

  • From 7 October to 29 November 2024, work will be carried out on Rue des Nuages/Chemin des Nuages in Ath between Chemin du Chasteler and Chemin des Vallées and between Rue Lucien Raulier and Rue Edgard Wademant.

Diversions will be in place at the Rue Edgard Wademant, Rue Lucien Raulier, Chemin des Vallées and Chemin du Chasteler junctions with Rue des Nuages/Chemin des Nuages.

  • Starting on 30 September, directional drilling is being  carried out along the N48 (Mont-de-l'Enclus) between its intersection with Chemin du Harby/Rue Beauregard and Rieu Capron . This work will last several weeks if everything goes according to plan.

Minimising disruption

We are working with the contractor to ensure that disruption is kept to a minimum. The work will be carried out during the day between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m

Local residents will continue to have access to their homes and businesses. In the rare cases where this is not possible, you will be notified in advance in writing.

You will continue to have electricity during the work, and agricultural land will remain accessible for farmers throughout.

This is a priority project for the Belgian electricity network, involving the replacement of an overhead line which has reached the end of its life, but which is key to ensuring the region's security of supply and to accommodating new uses associated with the energy transition. The work currently in progress will replace this overhead line with an underground line of the same capacity over a distance of around 45 km. Once this work has been completed, the old line will be dismantled.
