Definitive road repair of the streets concerned in Mortsel
In recent months, Elia has installed new underground electricity cables (15kV) between the “Mortsel” high-voltage substation and the company Agfa-Gevaert. Now that the laying of the electricity cables has been completed, the contractor Scheldekabel NV is renewing the road on behalf of Elia and the city of Mortsel.
Renewal of road surface in various phases
During the month of April, the contractor is renewing the road surface in Ter Varentstraat, Dieseghemlei and Drabstraat. The contractor is first removing the top layer of asphalt with a milling vehicle. This is being done over the entire width of the road surface. After that, a new layer of asphalt will be laid. Because the asphalt has to dry, the road surface can temporarily not be driven on. Houses will remain accessible on foot at all times.
At the beginning of May, the contractor is repairing the road surface on Heirbaan. The contractor is starting the preparatory works on 3 and 4 May. On 5 and 6 May, the contractor is placing the new layer of asphalt. The entire road surface can then not be driven on between the intersection with IJzerenweglei up to and including the intersection with Meidoorn. It will once again be possible to drive on the road surface as from the evening of 6 May.
Continuation of IJzerenweglei and Septestraat in summer
In July, the contractor will still be repairing the road surface at the roundabout of Septestraat and on IJzerenweglei. The road surface repair on IJzerenweglei is being planned in collaboration with the entrepreneurs and residents of the street. Specific hindrance is being communicated by means of a letter to residents before the work begins.
Minimising disruption
Elia and the contractor are making every effort to minimise the disruption.
- Houses and businesses will remain accessible at all times. Owners will be informed of any exceptions to these arrangements, such as on IJzerenweglei.
- Work will only be carried out during the day, between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. at the latest.
- Site vehicle traffic in the street will be limited.
Where streets are closed, residents will always receive a letter to residents in advance with more detailed information about their accessibility and any diversions that are in force.
